Regarding the domain of classical guitar activity in Canada, “there is little mention of the guitar after World War I, until its growth in popularity after 1945.” Toronto and Montreal 1 were the first Canadian cities to establish classical guitar societies after WWII. One of the earliest known solo concert classical guitar performances by a Canadian was given by Norman Chapman in Toronto in 1948. I will present an outline of the resurgence of classical guitar in Canada and focus on some of the contributions and accomplishments by Canadian women guitarists and composers since 1945
